How to Become a Security Guard
If you haven’t gone on to university after high school, then good news! Security guard jobs usually only require that you have a high school diploma or GED, so if you’ve already got one, you’re set. Otherwise, you’ll want to take the GED test before you go any further.
However, you should make sure you’re physically able to handle this job. You must be able to handle high-stress situations, have good interpersonal skills so you can de-escalate things, and also have good physical strength and stamina to defend yourself if needed.
Get Your Security Guard License
In some states, you’ll need a security guard license. This is especially true if the job you’re looking at will have you using a firearm.
To get this license, you must be at least 18 years old (for casino security, you’ll have to be at least 21). You’ll go through rigorous training and you must pass that and a background check to get your license.
Apply to Jobs
Now, you’re ready to apply for security guard jobs. Expect the jobs to pay between $11.50 to $20.00 an hour, depending on where you live.
